Providers
Gemini CLI
Use your Google account
Connect your Google account
- Open Settings → Providers and choose Gemini CLI.
- If it isn’t on this computer, press Install Gemini CLI.
- Press Sign in with Google. Google’s page opens in a browser on the computer Conch runs on. Sign in there, and this updates by itself.
No key and no card are needed. The free tier allows about a thousand requests a day; a Google AI Pro or Ultra plan allows more.
The same Conch tools
Conch opens a door for each turn: a connection on this computer, with a key made for that turn, that hands the program Conch’s own tools. Files in the chat’s work folder, sealed commands with no network access, memory, the browser and your apps all go through Conch’s approvals, skill limits and Undo, the same as with every provider.
The program’s own tools that would change a file or run a command ask first, and Conch declines them. An action Conch can’t seal or put back doesn’t happen.
A chat carries on in the program’s own session from one message to the next. When a chat moves between providers, the one that joins is handed what it missed, and what was done along the way. Conch gives the program its instructions (your assistant’s name and voice, what it knows about you) the way the program takes them, not as part of your message.
What the program does with its own tools shows in the chat as it happens, the same as with every provider.
Good to know
- Sign in on the computer itself. Google’s sign-in opens a browser there. On a computer without a screen, use Google Gemini with a key instead.
- Google’s terms for Gemini CLI apply. For use at work, a Gemini key is the clearer fit.
- Early support. Gemini CLI’s agent mode is still new.
